“…and now he has left and we will never finish the time tracking app in time!” cried Arthur to his phone.
“Oh, just shut up…” sighed Hubert. “Paul has made his choice, deal with it.”
“Hi, Hubert!” said the phone. “Okay, Artie, no time for panic. Sooo, I looked up the sleeping habits of snails, it seems you can work for up to 3 days in a row without getting tired. Maybe you can do even more, considering that you are magical.”
“But I’m still just a snail and we have only 24 hours…” sniffed Arthur. “How could I ever make it without Paul?”
“To be honest, you are not much slower than usual.” Hubert was always great at cheering Arthur up. “Even though you are doing three times the amount of whining. Which is annoying and impressive at the same time. So what do those sleeping papers say about me, Sarah?”
“Well, depending on what kind of frog you are, you might actually never be fully asleep,” replied the phone. “You have a third eyelid that is transparent, and you might close that for resting, but you are fully aware of your environment, just in case there is danger or food coming.”
“So Hubert didn’t really change much, huh? Constantly in work-mode.”
Hubert considered the statement for a moment, and then nodded. “I think both of the animal forms are well-fitting.”
“Huuubeert!” complained Arthur.
“Except that snails are typically fairly silent creatures,” argued Sarah.
“True,” Hubert agreed.
“Saaraaaah!” complained Arthur (again).
“Artie, you know that I love you just the way you are! But you have to pull yourself together, and get to work, as I would love to have you back in a human form tomorrow. If you are behind schedule, I’m pretty sure Hubert is willing to help you out. Or maybe you can get another intern in the morning. I’m sure you have plenty of those, they are pretty cheap, right?”
“Good thinking there!” Hubert switched into planning mode. “I think there was at least one other. I might or might not have made her cry last week. Actually not sure if she still works here.”
“Great, then first thing in the morning to check on her. Artie, do you know the crying intern?”
“Uhh, yes, but she will definitely quit this week if we keep her in the same office as Hubert.”
“No time to think about collateral damage! And anyway she should get used to this, there are far more dangerous things in the world than Hubert.”
Hubert smirked. “Are there really?”
